Confession 9: Apples are not always for eating

Make your own crinkle apple toy out of stuff you have around the house!

What you will need:

An old pair of khaki pants (I used toddler pants), a scrap of red fleece, a piece of card stock or cardboard from a cereal box, something that crinkles (chip bag, empty wipe container, candy wrapper), and red, green, and brown thread. You could used an old leather shoe lace for the stem instead of fleece.

Step 1: Draw an apple free hand on the card stock. Than draw one about 1/4 inch smaller than the first. Cut them out. Trace the smaller one onto the khaki and the crinkle plastic, cut out. Trace the large apple onto the fleece and cut out two.

Step 2: you should now have everything that is in the photo to your right. Place the khaki onto one of the red apples and use a sewing machine (if you have one) to sew it onto the red apple with a zigzag pattern. Use whatever color thread you would like. I think the green makes it pop! (see photo to your left).

Step 3: lightly draw a "seed pattern" on your khaki and hand sew with brown or black thick thread. (see finish photo below)

Step 4: Place the apple with the khaki right side down. Center the crinkle on top of it and the second red fleece on the top of the crinkle. Making a crinkle apple sandwich. Sew together with the sewing machine on a zig zag stitch with red thread.

Step 5: Give it to your little one and watch her enjoy the soft fleece, the bumpy khaki, and the crinkle of the bag inside.
